The Box family and workers at Box's brick works.

Lily pot.Brick Making

For hundreds of years bricks and tiles were made from the heavy clay from the lower lying part of the village. Many of the older houses in the area are built from bricks made there. During the nineteenth century the brickworks were run by the Box family, who also ran an Iron foundry there. It is said that they owned the first traction engine in Wiltshire which was used for hauling bricks. The brickworks closed in about 1950.
